Reformation Lutheran Church

We are honored to announce the commission of our Opus 10. This instrument will be a complete rebuild of the M.P. Moller organ company Opus 9369 from 1960 installed at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Columbia, South Carolina. Additions were made to the instrument in 1993 by the M.P. Moller - King of Instruments firm under the personal direction of Daniel Angerstein.

In our project, all of the existing Moller pipes, wind chests, and reservoirs will be removed to our Atlanta shop. There the chests will recieve a professional releathering to ensure another 50+ years of reliable service. The pipes will carefully be cleaned and repaired as needed. The reservoirs and entire wind system will be restored to a new condition, including the reinstatement of the Great tremulant that was disabled in the 1993 work.

Additionally a three manual Moller console suitable to the period will be refinished to a like new condition with new stop jambs and the Virtuoso control and combination system.

An all new Solo organ with two sets of expression shades, one into the chancel, one into the Swell for added versatility, will be added to the instrument. This new division will not only fill in beautiful solo voices the organ has lacked to date, but also fill in important blanks in the ensemble of the organ, notably the 8' Flute Harmonique. While providing solo voices, this division will also be able to serve in a Choir organ capacity, with the 8' Dulciana and 8' Unda Maris providing full yet soft voices for accompanimental needs.

All existing Moller pipes will be rescaled and revoiced as necessary, with some relocations and eliminations as needed. The additions will be largely inspired by the scaling and voicing parameters of Aristide Cavaille-Coll, including the Solo 8' Gamba, 8' Gamba Celeste, 8' Flute Harmonique and 8' Cromorne. The Solo 8' Dulciana is from the original 1960 instrument whose pipes have been in storage at the church since 1993. Final voicing and tonal finishing will take place with the close cooperation of Mr Henry Fulmer (Organist-Choirmaster) and Dr David Lowry (consultant).
